The Shamus Chronicles: Shamus On The Internet

by Betty Poole

I don't know how he did it, but Shamus is on the Internet!

I haven't told him about it, because the news might go to his head, and if that happened he just wouldn't be the nice, easy-going fellow he is today.

Dogs are a lot like people--they have their varying personalities--mostly likeable. Shamus is an affable sort--always anxious to please and ready to socialize. He relates very closely to humans and ingratiates himself with them very easily. When I have a visitor in for tea Shamus hangs around and listens to the conversation. When the talk turns to him, which it invariably does, he becomes animated and tries to join in with a language of w-o-o-o's and a-a-a's which I find quite easy to interpret.

He hasn't much time for other dogs. I don't think he realizes that he is a dog himself. He doesn't join in their mindless games, always preferring to hover near the people, close enough to eavesdrop without being too obvioous about it.

Lately, when I sit in front of the computer, Shamus stations himself beside my chair. Perhaps he already knows there is something afoot which involves him and possible FAME.
