The Shamus Chronicles: Complications from a Haircut
by Betty Poole
Shamus is a new man! On Sunday he had his annual haircut, and now he looks like a different dog. In fact, he looks so different that his good friend Scooter did not recognize him, and followed him around her house, snarling and nipping at whatever she could get her teeth into. Shamus, in his usual gentlemanly way, ignored her, until this behavior wore thin, and he suddenly turned and gave Scooter a warning growl. I guess Scooter recognized his voice. Shamus arrived for duty at Seniors on Monday morning where he was greeted by his human friends with cries of surprise and admiration. Eventually he became embarrassed by all the attention, and turned around to seclude himself under the front desk. This move proved untimely in so much company, because of one accord, they burst into gales of laughter. The object of hilarity was poor Shamus in retreat, exposing to public view body parts which have never before been so immodestly on view. Shamus has always been very sensitive to laughter at his expense. He is now suffering from a severe case of depression. Let us hope he will recover his old debonair personality before his hair grows back. |
